Let's talk environmental economy! (August 5th, 2009)

Let’s talk about the environmental economy. The July 16^th edition of the Chronicle Herald ran an article titled “Walmart to help customers shop green.”

In that article, the Herald revealed Walmart’s plan to announce the creation of an electronic indexing system meant eventually to help Walmart and other retailers determine the social and environmental impact of every product they place on their shelves. Check the article out by clicking here.

It is a true sign of the times that big-box stores such as Walmart are taking the environmental economy so seriously and are trying to help their customers improve their environmental footprint. At the Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre, that is what we’re all about. We will be a home for environmentally smart, pioneering businesses that want to improve their bottom line and better the environment.

The Nova Scotia Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act Section 4-1(a) states that: “The long-term environmental and economic objective of the province is to fully integrate environmental sustainability and economic prosperity and to this end to demonstrate international leadership by having one of the cleanest and most sustainable environments in the world by the year 2020.”

Kaizer Meadow is already recognized internationally as a leader in solid waste management, but success is not bred by resting on your laurels. Today, we are building on our success by establishing a leading edge eco park that will improve the economy, support the creation of knowledge-based jobs and enhance the environment.

We are the first facility of our kind to introduce a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that results in zero-discharge of effluent into waterways, and are home to several different environmentally friendly pieces of machinery.  The Kaizer Meadow Eco Park will be a centre for green innovation, environmental education and sustainability.
